Happy Hitters Day with Plenty of Bad Pitching on Deck

Looking at today’s starting pitchers, you’ll find there are several hurlers that have had some troubling first few weeks. Let’s take advantage of some bad pitching!

Twins SP Kevin Correia faces the Royals in his fourth start of the season. While he has finished six innings in two of his three starts, he has allowed more earned runs (11) than players he has struck out (10).

The Marlins throw out Henderson Alvarez to face Robinson Cano and his Seattle teammates. Alvarez has allowed 25 hits (and seven walks) in just under 15 innings this year.

In all, there are nine pitchers with ERAs above 5.00 throwing today, and you get to line up a bunch of hot hitters to go against them!

Today might be a good day to buy good pitching, with mediocre bats, with expectations that they’ll have better than average days. By loading up on great hitters, you’re rolling the dice with cheaper pitchers, and not taking advantage of the good matchups some of the lesser hitters have.

Saturday’s Daily Fantasy Baseball Links

Here are the top Daily Fantasy Baseball articles for Friday! If I missed any articles, let me know by leaving a comment or tweeting me @DavidGonos. Also, for traditional Fantasy Baseball players, here’s an article I wrote on “11 Simple Rules to Trading Fantasy Baseball Players” you might enjoy.

ESPN.com – Daily Notes

Mike Sheets takes a turn on the pitcher rankings for today’s games, and his top plays include Tigers SP Max Scherzer, Reds SP Tony Cingrani and, interestingly, Rangers SP Colby Lewis, who has a 6.75 ERA so far this season.

RotoGrinders.com – MLB Daily Plays

Bono6699 helps out with his picks of the day. He also likes Scherzer as one of his top pitching plays this afternoon. He also suggests slugging rookie catcher Josmil Pinto, who faces Royals lefty Bruce Chen (bad pitching).

“Only in his second MLB season Pinto has some pop in his bat, 7 HR’s and a HR to AB ratio of 1:15. I like this spot for Pinto to do some damage, as he homered off Chen in this situation last week. He is an affordably priced catcher, who will allow you to fit some other decent bats in your lineup. He is definitely someone who will be overlooked by many and makes a superb GPP play especially.” – bono6699

There aren’t really any more live articles this morning that I know about, but check these links throughout the day to see if they’ve posted some updates recently.

2014 Fantasy Opening Day Sale For Sale: $10,000

Welcome to the first day of the Daily Fantasy Baseball season! Playing on Fantasy Opening Day just makes the best day of the year even better. It’s like putting caramel on your buffalo wings!!!

Each day, our mission is to bring you links to the best Daily Fantasy Baseball articles on the web.

These articles might range from good picks for that day’s games, players to avoid, or just some helpful strategy pieces for the different Daily Fantasy sites.

If you write a Daily Fantasy Baseball article that you’d like me to add to this list, tweet @DailyFantasyD, or shoot me an email!

Fantasy Opening Day: Draft Kings (Chris) Sale Prices!

Once in a while, I’ll try to point out some interesting plays on different sites. For instance, White Sox starter Chris Sale, who struck out 226 batters last season, faces a Twins team that struck out 1,430 times last season – second-most in the majors.

There are a ton of aces going on Monday, including Madison Bumgarner, Johnny Cueto, Jose Fernandez, Felix Hernandez, Cliff Lee, Jon Lester, Francisco Liriano, David Price, James Shields, Stephen Strasburg, Justin Verlander and Adam Wainwright.

Most sites have Sale as the fourth-most expensive pitcher for Monday, but Draft Kings has him listed at $10,000, which is the eighth-most expensive salary among pitchers, behind Fernandez, Hernandez, Liriano, Price, Strasburg, Verlander and Wainwright.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Links for Monday, March 31

(These links were posted Sunday night at 11pm. As new articles come in, I plan to update them, so check back Monday morning.)

FantasyInsiders.com – Daily Diamond

Ben Pritchett handles the Daily Diamond cites Rangers SP Tanner Scheppers as his fourth-best pitching option for most Daily Fantasy sites.

“If Scheppers can stay in the strike zone, he should be more than serviceable. Some DFS touts will tell you to always pay for your starter, but Scheppers skills/price make him quite the interesting play.” – Pritchett

RotoGrinders.com – MLB Grind Down

Draft Kings Deposit Bonus-35x22-2Notorious loves Verlander for the Tigers’ opener, and he notes that the Royals were among the bottom of the league against right-handed pitchers last season. He also loves Phillies 2B Chase Utley against Scheppers, after Utley picked up his stats a bit down the stretch in March.

The Grind Down is a deep dive into every single game, and really is one of the best Daily Fantasy Tools around.

ESPN.com – Fantasy Daily Notes

Another one of my favorite tools, the boys at ESPN rank each day’s starting pitchers for Daily play. A new wrinkle they’ve added is a “GS” column, which stands for projected “Game Score” for each pitcher. This uses Bill James’ original formula, which takes in the past three years and the past 21 days.

They have Sale ranked 11th in Game Score, 53, with Jose Fernandez (72) and Sonny Gray (64) leading the position.

“[Fernandez’s] numbers in two starts against the Rockies last year were silly good, as he posted a pitching line of 14 IP, 9 H, 2 ER, 2 BBs, 16 K’s. And don’t forget that the 21-year-old was absolutely filthy at spacious Marlins Park last season, going 9-0 with a 1.19 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, 9.9 K/9 and an unbelievable opponents’ slash of .164/.228/.225 in 15 starts.” – Brian Gramling

RotoExperts.com – Dobish’s Daily Bread

Love this breakdown of the Daily Games coming up, as Dobish details the weather and venues. He also likes Billy Butler’s bat against Verlander, mostly because of his BvP stats, plus because he’s cheap on DraftDay.com.

RotoExperts.com – Tony’s Daily Nuggets

Tony Cincotta is a Fantasy veteran, and he makes some picks for StarFantasyLeague’s scoring system. He likes Jhonny Peralta despite a mediocre spring, and Scheppers, once again, because he’s also listed as a relief pitcher on their site.

Don’t forget to check the DailyMLBLineups.com page before games start to make sure your players are playing!

Good luck! I hope we find you a winner on the day after Fantasy Opening Day!
