Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Rockies Rookie Rocking & Rolling

There’s just something exciting about using rookies in Daily Fantasy Baseball. It’s like opening up a gift your Aunt Sally brought you from Michigan. You’re really hopeful that it’s going to be something awesome, but the odds are it’s going to be a crappy framed picture of you and her, with her dog, Captain PawPaws.

This past week, however, several rookies have come through in a big way, including Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon, who blew up in a huge way Friday night against Arizona. In his third start of the season, he went 6-for-6 with three doubles, a home run, 5 RBI and four runs scored. (And he kinda looks like Todd Helton, to boot!) Expect to see him among many experts’ Daily Fantasy Baseball picks in the coming days.

While Rockies manager Walt Weiss still plans to keep rotating his outfielders, according to MLB.com, Daily Fantasy Baseball owners should be happy, compared to their traditional counterparts. Those partial weeks will help keep Blackmon’s salaries down on most Daily Fantasy sites.

For Saturday, Blackmon checks in at just $2,900 on FanDuel, which ranks about 104th among all outfielders. He’s not on rosters for Draft Day or Draft Kings yet, but you have to imagine he will be soon!

Another big rookie about to take center stage is Tyler Skaggs, who’s getting a spot start for the Angels against the free-swinging Astros Saturday night. That sounds like a cheap option many might choose for some tournaments tonight.

Saturday’s Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks

There are eight games before 7pm, so you should definitely have plenty of choices for both the early and the late games. Here are your top Daily Fantasy Baseball articles of the day! If you know of an article I’ve missed, drop it in the comment section, or tweet it at me @DavidGonos.

LockerRoomFantasySports.com – News & Notes

I love the nightly roundup of tweets and comments from around the web about last night’s action. By checking this page out, we find out things like how Blackmon was just the 63rd player to go 6-for-6 in a game in major league history. Or how Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka gave up a homer to the first major leaguer he faced – after giving up just six home runs in Japan last season. Chris Meaney did a great job on this last night.

(Cool note, from @AdamRubinESPN – Jay Bruce has 45 homers vs. lefties since the start of 2010, which is the most of any major leaguer in that span.)

FanDuel - WFBCESPN.com – Daily Notes

Jose Fernandez leads the second tour of aces on Saturday, as guys like Madison Bumgarner, Felix Hernandez, Cliff Lee, David Price and Stephen Strasburg also take the mound. ESPN writer Mike Sheets actually has Skaggs ranked among the worst choices for the day, but not as bad as John Danks and Kyle Gibson. Line up some hitters against the Twins and White Sox.

TheFakeBaseball – Streaming Pitchers

Michael Pineda starts for the first time in a couple years, and he’ll face the Blue Jays, and R.A. Dickey – who was not hitting his spots Monday at Tampa Bay.

RotoExperts.com – Dobish’s Daily Bread

Dobish likes 3B Cody Asche against the Cubs Saturday in the early games.

“Asche has a little bit of power potential in a lefty vs righty situation, even if he is facing Chicago Cubs ace SP Jeff Samardzija. The wind will be blowing out of Wrigley Field, albeit a little more to right field than left, but that’s always a hitter’s friend and bugaboo for hurlers.” — Dobish

Looks like Matt Joyce could be another good lefty-vs-righty play against rookie RHP Nick Martinez for the Rangers.

VegasInsider.com – Saturday’s Daily Doubles

Dobish also notes in his column on VI that the wind is still blowing out to right field in Cleveland, which spells a good day ahead for Twins left-handed hitter Joe Mauer.

Follow me @DavidGonos to see what my Daily Fantasy Baseball picks might be for Draft Day Rapid Fire! (It posts a little later in the day.)
